Taking the Next Step
As I look at my contact list, I’m amazed at how many people I have come to know over the years. I had to smile when I looked at some of the names and the memories of how our paths crossed. Obviously those were positive moments, or those names wouldn’t have been flashing back at me from my computer. I started to think of the steps in my life that have brought me to where I am today, and where I will hope to be heading.
As a kid back in Vancouver, I tested my marketing ideas with a Kool Aid stand that offered a drink for free, but only for today. My logic being that once you tried it today for free, you’d have to come back tomorrow for more, and be willing to pay for it.
I was 5. It made sense to me at the time.
Thus began my road to matching people up with the things they really wanted. I found old bikes, cleaned them up and resold them to friends. Then I found cars in backyards, and convinced the old owners that those cars would be much happier with new owners. Quite often I would do this on my own, knowing that a pal really wanted that old Torino, but just didn’t know it yet. Eventually, this turned into a hobby, searching for bikes, cars, houses, or whatever it was that friends were actually looking for. I became known as the “find it guy” and people would always ask me to look for more.
The question was posed to me many a time: Why aren’t you selling real estate? I didn’t really have an answer except I was in a good paying mill job and life was coasting along just fine. Why give all of that up for uncertainty? A move from Williams Lake to Vernon in 2006 gave me the opportunity to once again explore my options and last spring I realised it was time to take the jump. A lot of soul searching, many long phone calls to friends in the real estate world, and the right place in my mind, I leaped. The real estate trading services course wasn’t easy, and the pressure I put on myself to do well was even worse, but I did it, and here I am…looking at my contact list. I’d like to thank Brenda Ellis for recommending me to Bill Hubbard and seeing enough in me to welcome me to the Royal LaPage team. I can honestly say that I now feel at home.
Those steps got me here…the next step will be finding you exactly what you are looking for.
Your new home.
