Who is working for you?

John Deak of Royal LaPage Executives Realty installs the sold topper on a house for sale sign in Vernon BC.From time to time I will get a call from a person who has called my phone number from the sign out in front of one of my listings. They are looking for information on the home, and I am more than happy to help them.

Often, the house might not be what they want, or the price isn’t right, and they will move on….to the next sign down the street and call the next number.

Who is the listing agent working for?

Their reasoning is that they will only call the Realtor who is listing the home. What is their logic behind this? In some cases, they believe the Realtor will be motivated to work with them and get the best price on their behalf. But that Realtor is also working for the Seller.

So, who exactly is the Realtor working for? Remaining impartial to both sides is a balancing act. How can you negotiate in the best interest of both sides? It can be done…but it’s tough

Get a professional working for you

A better way is to find a Realtor you like (perhaps Me!) and build a good working relationship with them. This way, you will get this person working for you.

They will get to know the type of home you are looking for, know the price you can afford, and even work their contact list to possibly find you a home that is not even for sale yet! I’ve done it! I know many other Realtors who have, too.

And once they find you the home you want, they can now negotiate the best they can on your behalf.

Now, what did you gain from this? A Realtor who knows you, knows what you want, and gets you your best price. And possibly a good friend!

How cool is that?
